Packing for Haiti: Epiphany’s 3rd Medical Mission to Hopital St. Croix, Leogane, Haiti
We are cinching tight our rolling duffel bags loaded to the limit with meds, dental supplies, carry bags – oh, and our personal gear to deliver five days of mobile medical clinics in the hills and valleys around Leogane, two hours west of Port au Prince.  And we want to thank a number of people and organizations for “accompanying” us on this mission via money or materiel.

MERCI for helping to finance our pharmaceuticals purchase, as well as the payroll for engaging our Haitian team of doctor, dentist, nurse, translators, as well as drivers!  We have SO many people to thank, but will say thanks to just a few organizations:

o   Outreach at All Saints Episcopal Church, Belmont

o   Outreach at Parish of the Epiphany, Winchester

o   The Michael T. Sherman Foundation, with the counsel of our communicant Art Page

Packaging is an art, a science, and simply work! Especial thanks for counting pills and labeling same to…

o   Winchester Hospital volunteers, via the leadership of Dr. Gloria Korta, MD and Marie Johnson for preparing some 50,000 vitamins for children and adults

o   Dr Dan Seligman DPM, podiatrist with office in Medford for our Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen preparation – Dan and Marissa Seligman joined us on Mission 2 in 2012 and were treasured members of the team. Dan also donated two pairs of orthopedic shoes for our Creole Dinner silent auction as part of the “happy feet” amongst parishioners.

Other supplies include special items:

o   Glucometers courtesy of NOVA MEDICAL, Waltham, which counts “Captain” Bob Bristol among its employees.

o   Novacaine and Bio-Freeze courtesy of Dr Dan Seligman, noted above.

o   HC, Bacitracin, and Miconazole Ointments, eye drops and ear drops, donated by Mr. Ramzi Dinno who owns pharmacies in Newton, Acton and West Concord. Mr. Dinno is a boyhood friend of our Joe Georgis, from the same home town in southern Iraq. Although a different branch of Christianity, this is the third mission for the wonderful support from Mr Dinno.

o   Belmont Printing supplied our patient records (diagnosis & Rx items) on card stock

A distinctly Epiphany ministry is the crafting of carry bags for our patients who will take home 4 or 5 meds per person, so a Mom of a couple of kids may be carrying 15 items home over “mountains beyond mountains.”   Special thanks to Dottie Dexter, Nadine Suhrbier, Peggy Roll, Jeannette Conrod, Barbara Cade, Jill Richardson, Susan Haskell, Allison Taber, Kelsey Klaczyk, Lisa Klaczyk and to these Non-POE People: Peter Isaacson (Fabric Place Basement, donation of goods), Sue Kiewra (donation of goods), Lindee Vaught (sent 67 bags from Tennessee), Becky Wynne (from TN), Sandra Ciarlone, Mary Ciarlone, Ruthie Ferrante and Wanda Vitti

Disclaimer: My apologies if we've forgotten to include someone. Please contact Lisa Klaczyk at fenway.bark1@verizon.net with any corrections necessary..
